There is a certain kind of Adirondack getaway where the best memories do not come from a packed itinerary.
They come from coffee with mountain views, favorite foods spread across the kitchen counter, dinner that lingers, puzzles left out for later, and choosing your fireside when evening settles in the company you enjoy most.
At 5 Star Lodge, you do not have to leave the property to feel immersed in the mountains. Some of the best visits happen when you bring fewer plans, settle into the views, and let the lodge itself become the destination.
Long before 5 Star Lodge welcomed its first guests, it was a dream for our own family. We camped on the property while we built the lodge, laying stone, pounding nails, and watching every room come together with one purpose in mind: creating a place where people could reconnect.
Today we’re honored to share that experience with couples, friends and families from across the country. Our lodge was featured on CBS and streams on The Roku Channel’s Staycation USA, but what means the most to us are the stories guests share after their stay and the great time they had never leaving the lodge. Here are The Golden Family and Guest best tips for planning a memorable “Stay Put” Vacation with us.
Start With Your Favorite Food, Not Reservations
One thing our clean team often tells us is how much guests seem to enjoy cooking here.
That is exactly what the kitchen was designed for.
The chef’s kitchen at 5 Star Lodge is open, spacious, and fully equipped, so cooking becomes part of the gathering, not something one person disappears to do alone.
There is room for several cooks, someone lingering at the bar with a glass of wine, someone setting out appetizers, and someone else enjoying the mountain views while dinner comes together.
It works beautifully for shared meals. Pancakes in the morning. Soup after a chilly day. A big pasta dinner. A Thanksgiving spread. A grazing board that slowly turns into dinner because nobody is in a hurry.
Bring groceries for a few favorite meals. Plan an easy breakfast or two. Pack the ingredients for a dinner everyone can help with. Let someone claim dessert.
No reservations. No timelines. No deciding who has to drive home after dinner.
Just your people, a full pantry, and the rare pleasure of having nowhere else to be.
Make the Food Part of the Fun
A stay-put getaway does not mean every meal has to be complicated.
Make your grocery stop part of the trip. Pick up the practical things first, then add a few Adirondack extras that make the weekend feel special: smoked meats, cheeses, crackers, good bread, breakfast bacon, pancake mix, maple syrup, cocoa, wine, or something fun for dessert.
Oscar’s Smokehouse is a great stop for grazing board ingredients, smoked meats, cheeses, bacon, sausage, and treats that feel right at home in a mountain kitchen.
And do not overlook the easy wins. Even Stewart’s can help make meals fun with cinnamon rolls for the morning, ready-made mac and cheese, chili, snacks, and quick lunch options.
The point is not to cook elaborately unless you want to. It is to have good food within reach so everyone can relax into the stay.
A grazing board by the fire, soup for lunch, pancakes in the morning, or chili after a walk can be just as memorable as going out to dinner.
Let Someone Else Take Care of Dinner
Imagine arriving at the lodge to the welcoming aroma of a beautifully prepared dinner, ready to enjoy without the shopping, chopping, or cleanup. A private chef can create an intimate meal in the comfort of your own dining room, or you can arrange for a prepared dinner to be delivered and enjoyed at your own pace.
It’s a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or simply savor time together. Light the candles, pour a favorite bottle, and settle in as the evening unfolds around good food, warm conversation, and the people you came to be with.
Ask us about local chef options before your stay. Advance arrangements are recommended, and services are subject to availability.
Slowly Let the Morning Unfold
Mornings at 5 Star Lodge are best when they are not over-managed.
Make coffee. Find your favorite view. Let breakfast happen when everyone is ready.
Some guests settle in with a book. Others wander onto the deck with a mug in hand. Someone might sleep in. Someone else might start a puzzle before the rest of the house is fully awake.
That is part of the magic.
Make the Great Room Your Gathering Space
The great room is made for the in-between moments. It doesn’t matter if there are 2 or 12 guests.
Someone is reading on the sofa, someone else is watching the fire, a few people are talking in the kitchen, and nobody is in charge of the schedule.
Pull out a vintage game, start a puzzle, or let a quiet afternoon turn into a movie. The TVs at the lodge are set up for streaming, so your group can log into your favorite apps for an afternoon film, a cozy binge-watch, or a low-key night in.
Puzzles, books, and several vintage games are available too, so staying in never has to feel like a backup plan.
These are not filler activities.
They are the reason to come.
Choose Your Fireside
One of the best parts of a stay-put getaway is deciding where the evening should happen.
When the weather cooperates, the outdoor fire pit is a guest favorite. It is perfect for cool evenings, stargazing, long conversations, and that particular kind of Adirondack quiet that makes people put their phones away without being asked.
In cooler months, the indoor fireplace gives the great room that tucked-in feeling everyone wants from a mountain house.
So pick your fireside.
Outdoor fire pit when the stars are out. Indoor fireplace when the house is calling everyone back inside.
Either way, the point is the same: gather, settle in, and let the evening stretch, breathe and relax.
Smaller Groups Fit Beautifully Here
Not every 5 Star Lodge stay needs to be a big group gathering.
For smaller getaways, Five Star Retreat and Five Star Escape make it easier to enjoy the property in a way that fits your group size. They are ideal for couples, small families, a few friends, or groups of 2 to 6 who want the full lodge feeling without booking more space than they need.
Each option still gives you exclusive use of the property.
No shared spaces. No other guests. Just your group, the mountain views, the kitchen, the deck, the fire, and the room to settle in.
And yes, for Thanksgiving or the occasional larger gathering, the full 5 Star Lodge experience is there when everyone is coming together.

Good to Know Before You Go
Parking: There is ample parking in the driveway and heated garage.
Timing: Check-in begins at 4:00 PM, and check-out is at 11:00 AM. If you are hoping for early check-in or late check-out, reach out close to arrival or departure since availability depends on the cleaning schedule.
Groceries: Pick up groceries and special food items before you settle in. Once you are comfortable at the lodge, you may not feel like heading back out.
Fireplace and fire pit: The indoor fireplace is a favorite in cooler months. The outdoor fire pit is seasonal and weather dependent, generally available May through October/November. Guests should bring or purchase fire materials and follow all fire safety guidelines.
Streaming: The TVs are set up for streaming, so guests can log into their favorite apps during the stay. It is perfect for an afternoon movie, a comfort-watch series, or a relaxed evening after dinner.
Puzzles, books, and vintage games: The lodge has puzzles, books, and several vintage games available for quiet mornings, relaxed afternoons, and easy nights in.
Local quirk: Adirondack weather changes quickly. Pack layers, even if the forecast looks mild.
Best mindset: Do less than you think you need to. The lodge is part of the trip, not just the place you sleep.
A Few “Stay Put” Days Can Be Just Enough
A good stay at 5 Star Lodge does not have to be complicated.
Cook together. Drink coffee with the view. Read a little. Work on the puzzle. Watch the mountains change with the light. Stream a movie. Pick the outdoor fire pit or the indoor fireplace. Let dinner last longer than it does at home.
That is the kind of Adirondack getaway people remember.
Not because every hour was planned, but because for a few days, nobody had to be anywhere else.
